Their collection amounted to a vast 15,000 jazz and blues releases accumulated in a period when the average record collection was a small stack of scratchy shellac discs stashed in a cupboard. Ahmet studied music at Georgetown University, in Washington, DC, and both brothers collected records. They were obsessed with jazz, the music of the era. Ahmet and Nesuhi Ertegun were the sons of Turkey’s first Ambassador to the United States and as hip as could be in the 40s. This ought to be on record: Atlantic launches in New York CityĪtlantic Records started with love. Atlantic delivers the music that matters, and always has. It moved from jazz music to R&B, practically invented soul music, embraced the rock revolution it helped inspire, made disco matter and gave contemporary R&B an outlet – practically coming full circle in the process. But the label has been nimble and flexible. Atlantic has had its share of shocks: major artists leaving the deaths of its founders its musical focus falling from fashion scandals, legal issues and all the rest. Three quarters of a century in such a volatile business could never pass without incident. Atlantic Records is where Bruno Mars rubs shoulders with Aretha Franklin, where Solomon Burke shakes hands with Cardi B, Cream meets Kream, and Lizzo stands with LaVern Baker. While other aspirants have faded, Atlantic thrives, with a roster the envy of other labels, and an awe-inspiring back catalogue. They were following, consciously or otherwise, Atlantic’s blueprint, and that plan turned a one-room business run by a couple of music nuts into a major company. Motown, Island, Virgin – all were built on trying to get the music right above all else, because if you achieved that, success would ensue. Delivering the music that matters: Atlantic Records’ legacyĪtlantic Records was highly creative from the start. And its legacy and influence continues to loom large over the industry today. And the greatest of these labels is Atlantic Records, which has enjoyed – yes, enjoyed – a 75-year history of making hits from music its founding fathers loved and would continue to love, were they still around. Their success is built on sound, not a fetish for dollars. These corporations are highly creative because it’s in their DNA from the get-go. And the best of them were launched by people obsessed by music, who prized it above all other forms of art. At the very least, they began with a founder who was interested in music. Besides, most major record labels did not start out as highly monetised enterprises. But major labels have to be creative to thrive, otherwise they would always be outsmarted by younger, leaner companies able to react to every nuanced development in music. A certain snobbery surrounds record companies: the story goes that small is creative and big kills creativity. In these children, the prevalence of latex allergy varies from 1% to 49%, and it can reach 72%. 4 When present is children, latex allergy is usually found in risk groups, such as children with atopic background and specially children with spina bifida who undergo multiple surgeries from birth and, who are prematurely and frequently exposed to latex. 3 In one study with 1877 children of 7 years old submitted to skin prick test with latex, only 4 children were sensitized. In fact, in the general pediatric population the sensitization and allergy to latex are rare. 2Īs stated, it was also unexpected that ImmunoCAP ISAC revealed positive for Hev b 3-a specific allergen of latex. These proteins are, in fact, responsible for life-threatening reactions as they are generally resistant to proteolysis and denaturation. 1 Further investigation with ImmunoCAP ISAC has shown the presence of Jug r 1 e Cor a 9, which are storage proteins and therefore justifies the severity of the initial reaction. In this case, we described a previously healthy child, with no history of allergic disease, which presented as first manifestation of allergy and anaphylactic reaction that occurred after contact with a tree nut and also was sensitized to a latex allergen (Hev b 3) that is not associated with cross-reactivity to tree nuts. Treatment included strict elimination of peanuts and tree nuts from diet and self-injectable adrenaline. ImmunoCAP Specific for latex molecular allergens (Hev b 9, Hev b 11, Hev b 6.02, Hev b 6.01, Hev b 5, Hev b 3, and Hev b 1) was performed, which confirmed positivity only for Hev b 3 (2.31 kU/L).Ī challenge test was performed with a latex glove: first with finger glove and then with whole glove, which were negative. For a better understanding of the clinical situation, we performed ImmunoCAP ISAC that was positive for storage proteins of walnut and hazelnut, Jug r 1 and Cor a 9, with values of 0.6 and 33 ISAC Standardized Units (ISU-E), respectively, and for a specific allergen of latex (Hev b 3: 1.9 ISU-E). Initial diagnostic exams revealed a positive skin prick test to walnut (wheal mean diameter 5 mm same as histamine diameter) and specific IgE for cashew nut 21.1 kU/L walnut 10 kU/L hazelnut 2.94 kU/L, and almond 0.46 kU/L. The previous year she had an episode of labial swelling after ingesting a chocolate with hazelnut. Also, we emphasize the importance to latex sensitization with potential future clinical relevance and the sensitization to Hev b 3, which is not documented to be involved in cross-reactivity phenomena/latex–fruit syndrome or present in an otherwise healthy child.Ī 5-year-old Caucasian girl with no significant past medical history and with a family history of allergic disease (mother and 7-year-old brother with allergic rhinitis to pollens) was referred to Pediatric/Allergology Consultation after an episode of sialorrhea, perioral urticarial rash, tongue swelling, and immediate vomiting after oral contact with cashew nut. It is interesting that anaphylaxis was the first manifestation of allergy in a healthy child. ImmunoCAP ISAC was positive for storage proteins of walnut and hazelnut (Jug r 1 e Cor a 9) and for a specific allergen of latex (Hev b 3). Investigation revealed the following: positive skin prick test to walnut and positive specific IgE for cashew nut, walnut, hazelnut, and almond. We present the case of a previous healthy 5-year-old girl referred to Pediatric/Allergology Consultation after an episode of sialorrhea, perioral urticarial rash, tongue swelling, and immediate vomiting after oral contact with cashew nut. Cross-reactivity can occur not only with foods that are in the same biological family but also between certain fruits or vegetables and latex (latex–fruit syndrome). Food allergy affects many young children and tree nut allergy is accountable for a large number of severe, life-threatening anaphylactic reactions. Surely Nesbit (Lynnette Perry), who inspired socialite Harry Thaw to blow architect White’s brains out (neither man is depicted onstage), was more than a standard-issue bubble-headed chorine. With a few exceptions, the characters here are whittled down to their signifying traits, a reducing that goes beyond the standard musical theater shorthand. What shouldn’t have gone, though, is three-dimensional characterization. Something had to go or we’d be sitting in the Ford Theater for more than the plenty-long three hours. In Livent Inc.’s $ 8 million-plus production, headed for Broadway late next year, lyricist Lynn Ahrens and book writer Terrence McNally have kept most of the figures who populate the novel - a feat the movie barely managed - even if some of the characters (Houdini, for example) are little more than stock figures.įans of the novel will no doubt be disappointed with some of the editing done here - Emma Goldman’s interaction with starlet Evelyn Nesbit, eliminated entirely, would be my gripe - but such fault-finding is hardly fair. Doctorow’s tale of the gilded (think summer linens and parasols), the oppressed and the newly arrived blends the lives of common folk with the rich and famous of the day, a story not so much of serendipity as of the threads that connect all our lives, from the inhabitants of whitebread New Rochelle to Harlem, from a just-off-the-boat immigrant to Houdini and famed architect Stanford White. What is the Uber Vehicle Inspection and how to complete it?Ī vehicle inspection sounds scary since it could stand in the way between you and earning fares especially if you have an older model car. Tire health (by depth of thread, usually 9/32nds).Before heading to your inspection, you should do a check of your vehicle yourself to see if you can spot and fix any issues ahead of time: I urge all drivers not to leave the inspection to the last day and complete it as soon as possible in case there are costly repairs required such as new brakes or tires. Both Uber and Lyft will send drivers warnings regarding when their previous inspection is expiring through the driver app. By knowing all the details about the inspection, you can be better prepared and all but guarantee you pass. In this article, I will help you steer clear of this fate. Many would be Uber and Lyft drivers fail these vehicle inspections over the simplest of issues, costing them time and money over something that could have been easily avoided. One of these is a comprehensive vehicle inspection to make sure your car is safe and ready to pick up passengers. Before you can pick up any fares and make money with either company you need to pass a few checks. So it’s a simple matter of installing the apps, hopping in your car, filling it up and picking up passengers. You've decided to become a Rideshare driver, you’ve budgeted the hours and you’re ready to make some more money as an Uber or Lyft driver either on a full time or part time basis. The city you live in may have certain restrictions regarding the model year of your car, check the Uber or Lyft website for additional specific information. This is certainly a good thing as far as Driver and Passenger Safety is concerned. They must get their car inspected yearly in order to continue driving. A lot has changed over those four years, mostly for the worse as far as earnings are concerned but one thing has remained constant for drivers. I have been driving for Uber and Lyft for close to 4 years. In this step by step Guide, Rideguru contributor Sergio Avedian explains how to complete a yearly car inspection for Uber and Lyft! He lives in Los Angeles but in most cities getting your annual car inspection is a simple process.
The significant change in security data file versions in High Sierra is that the KEXT block version has risen to 13.0.0, which reflects High Sierra’s new behaviour with third-party kernel extensions. I had a chance to test some of my free tools out: Consolation 3 seems to run fine, as does LockRattler, even if the latter still doesn’t work properly on El Capitan. I didn’t both migrating anything the second time around, but will try Migration Assistant when I have a few hours to spare. I then had to start the whole configuration process afresh. In the end I clicked on Cancel, which didn’t offer to cancel the migration, but to shut my Mac down. That dialog shows three indicators of progress: a progress bar, which became stuck at about 80% and never moved thereafter a time estimate, which became stuck at 2 minutes to go and a claimed transfer speed in MB/s, which actually incremented more like a percentage progress figure, but continued plodding past 100 without showing any signs of completion. The migration progress dialog is full of bugs, and never completed. The installation itself went fairly smoothly, but migration (of limited data from my internal Fusion Drive) was a dismal failure. I do not yet know whether this is fixed in the second version of the installer. However, if your internal boot drive is an SSD, expect it to be converted to APFS – no choice. It wasn’t, and there is now no easy way to perform that conversion, except perhaps by starting up in Recovery mode. As I was installing onto an external SSD, I had expected it to be converted to APFS from HFS+. You are given no option as to whether to convert the install disk to APFS, and on this iMac, the installer made the wrong decision, if Apple’s ‘rule’ is to be believed. Here, that took 15 minutes from the start of the installation phase, but that does not include any conversion to APFS. You’ll know that you have reached the end when a grey screen appears: that signals the start of configuration and migration. I counted at least five different progress bars, of which only one had any vaguely useful time estimate, and most had none at all. The installation is a succession of black screens, white Apple logos with progress bars which behave weirdly, and little accurate user feedback. As its log confirmed its inactivity, I quitted the installer app, opened and ran it again. My first attempt at installation died quietly after downloading the first third. If you suspect that something has gone wrong during the download or installation phase, use the Installer Log command in the Window menu to see what the installer is up to. a hidden and protected folder named Locked Files.a 5.6 GB Installer package InstallESDDmg.pkg, containing the bulk of the installation,.
